This app is great, the main feature that made me get it is the ability to save the image to my harddrive and not to a 3rd party service.

As a professional designer, taking screenshots for research is a weekly occurence. Over the years, I’ve tested out a variety of apps. I settled on Ambrosia’s Snapz Pro for several years, and it served its purpose amicably. But then I found Annotate, and haven’t looked back since. Though it’s not the sexiest tool, it does everything Skitch does, just better and easier. Seriously, if you simply need a tool that can capture and markup screenshots, as well as quick video clips, you’re not going to find anything more complimentary to your workflow.
I should be able to mark up images directly from the Photos app via an extension, not just by launching the Annotate app separately.
Much more nimble than default MacOS screenshot! :D
I really like Annotate and use it daily for sending notes and feedback to my clients, for creating How-To checklists and videos and to capture cool ideas for my swipe file. It has completely replaced Skitch for me (which became useless after I stopped being able to upload to Evernote - too many screen grabs). My one hope for the next version is that once you’re connected to a service like Dropbox or iCloud you won’t have to “force” a file to upload. I hope you can set it to upload captures automatically.
Can not sign in dropbox. please fix
Best app for taking a quick screen shot to share pretty much anywhere. The ability to easily annotate, to bring attention to exactly what you want is invaluable. I used to use Skitch, but it was annoying even before Evernote bought it. Annotate is never annoying, just helpful.
if you’re looking for a dead simple annotation and share app for screenshots its awesome. take the screenshot/partial, do whatever or nothing with it, then drag and drop it into skype/telegram/mail/etc. couldnt be more simple.
V2 is a good evolution, but still lacks an important feature to make it really productive: automatic copy to clipboard. In this v2, you still have to cmd-shift-C after annotating it. Too bad the author does not understand the main use case of his product: clip - annotate - paste in email. Not in a new email, in an email you have already started writing!
For a 2.0 app that requires Yosemite, the biggest missing feature is support for Share extensions. From the notes they added CloudApp support, but with Share extensions they could have gotten there AND supported AirDrop, Pocket, Flickr, and many more. The latest update adds the ability to customize the toolbar, adding with Copy or Save or Email or whatever my most frequently used destination might be. They also added the ability to save images as JPEG andapp remembers the last save format, so it doesnt need to be selected each and every time. Also cool. (Both were suggestions Id made earlier, so I appreciate the fact that theyre listening to their customers.) Still waiting for share extension support, but getting to be a solid upgrade. Buy it. UPDATE Found that screen captures saved to the clipboard can NOT be imported/pasted into Photoshop CC, which makes using Glui as my sole image capture method problematic.
This app helps me to be a better communicator. Excellent in it’s feature set and minimal UI. Works great.
It just works. When Cloud App switched to crazy pricing, I needed something else. I tried all sorts of apps but ran into one of two problems: they required monthly subscriptions or the images storage provided was temporary. This app uses DropBox properly…meaning the images I capture and upload are permanent until I clean out the folder. This is HUGE as I use screenshots in my regular correspondence.
This is truly an indispensible app in my daily workflow. The thoughful simplicity and flexible but easy sharing options make it far and above the best app of its type that I’ve ever used, and I’ve used many. The dropbox sharing with built-in URL shortener lets me grab, annotate, and paste a short link in just a few seconds. This is perfect for me since I need to communicate visually in a variety of contexts like IM, website support thread, live meeting, email, whatever. And if I need to make a .png it is just a quick option-drag to any window. (Photoshop is the only app that for some reason wont accept Glui image drag and drop). The only things on my wishlist would be 1) Adding a dashed line option - helpful to illustrate margin or alignment issues, and 2) ability to select tools with keyboard shortcuts or use the arrows for next/previous tool. Tool selection is the one thing that slows me down the most. It would also be great to be able to use plus/minus to increase/decrease size of a selected object rather than using the sizer scrollbar. Other than that, I hope the developer resists the temptation to add features because its zen-like simplicity is really the best thing about Glui. Thanks for the beautiful and useful app!
I started using Glui (now Annotate) when it was first released. Each update they keep making it better and better. I have never had any issues with it and it does exactly what they say it does with no problems. Good work guys!
I use Annotate (formerly Glui) every day to share screenshots with coworkers that I’ve annotated to get more information across. For a web developer/designer like me this tool is indispensable.
Well, almost perfect! It lacks zooming in/out images for previewing. Not a big deal, though.
I have been searching half the day for a simple screen capture app. Everything I tried was too clunky or too complicated. This was just what I was looking for.. I would love to have the option for the window to close automatically after I have saved my screenshot locally. I sometimes get busy and will end up having multiple windows open. Other than that, it is the perfect app!
I own and operate a photogrphy studio and we create images for clients daily. This is a great tool for me to quickly illustrate my thoughts and notes to my team. aesthetically, I wish I could turn off the drop shadow and functionally I think its perfect.
Annotate is the best screen capture app for the Mac, and I’ve tried quite a few. Ive been a supporter since Annotate was known as Glui and Ive seen it steadily improve with each update. Also, the developer is very responsive. I had some issues with pasting and dragging screenshots into Photoshop and within a month he had an update released to the app store that fixed the issue. I highly recommend you check out Annotate if you do a lot of screenshot and annotation work.
Im using Annotate to replace a hodgepodeg of tools for screen capture, markup and sharing. My workflow is simpler and cross-device sharing (Mac, iOS) gives me one tool for both of my platforms. Highly recommended.
