Annotate - Capture and Share App Reviews

39 Customer Reviews:

I frequently use this app. Daily. It’s got great shortcuts, great features for annotating images and screenshots. I’m a visual person and this allows me to express my thoughts and move my workflow quickly. Arrows, texts, sharing. It’s great at all of these, and it’s painless and quick to use.

Fantastic, speedy little app.

The ability to snap animated GIFs is exactly what I’ve been wanting, but haven’t had a chance to request. Great job!

There are a lot of screengrab tools out there but most of them are over thought and over wrought. Annotate has all the options you need, implmented in ways that make perfect sense and which are therefore easy to remember the next time you need them. Anything Ive wished for (fine tune the Dropbox URL placed on the clipboard, remove Facebook from the sharing list) are right there in the Preferences. Tipothehat to the app creator!

Why JPEG???

Good application, but suprisely it shares JPEG to twitter. Why JPEG, not PNG? Why there are no options to change that?

I have been looking for a replacment for Skitch since it was ruined by Evernote. I had settled on Monosnap which has lots of functionality but it periodically crashes and I find it a bit slow when taking screenshots. Annotate is the closest I’ve found to a solution that would replace monosnap and take back the snapshotting crown once and for all. There are 3 main things I find it lacking: 1. Ability to upload to FTP/SFTP and other services other than the 3 lmited ones it now includes 2.Being able to copy the image link directly after uploading rather than a shortened URL to the page where the image is stored. This is key for quickly copying images into chats and emails. 3. A timed-screenshot capabillity for screenshoting images that require complex hover and mouse overs. if these were implemented, Annotate would be a 5 star rather than the 4 star it is now.

Great but Gifs do not work!

Love the app however, gifs will not save and therefore cannot use them =/.

I love this app. It is definetly worth the few dollars. I had the older version, GLUI. This version is much more poweful. Contrary to the poster, you can create 10 second GIF and save it. Even better, you can save the GIFs and screenshots to the cloud like using Dropbox and then post the GIF in Tumblr. There are more new features, like overlays, which allow you to highlight parts of your screenshots. Overall this going to be my go to screenshot app on my Mac. Bottom line, I love the app.

Drag feature is broken on El Cap

In drag mode the cursor doesn’t change from cross hairs to the hand and the image can’t be dragged.

I love this app! I purchased it when it was called Glui about a year ago. Since then the developers have changed the name and added more features. This shows that not only are the developers listening to their users but they are actively trying to make the software better. Thank you Drifft! This app is drop dead simple. It stays out of your way but is easy to access from the menu bar. I am a tech consultant who works with clients all over the U.S. I have required each of my clients to purchase and install this app. It is a easy way for them to take a picture of what is happening on their screens and email me the picture so I can address the issue. Fantastic! I know there are other screen capture apps out there and I have tried them. I keep coming back to Annotate as my only choice. Highly recommend. The only feature I wish they would add is a Print button. :-) Buy with confidence.

As a remote worker I treat this app like pointing to my screen when I want to talk to a friend at another desk. Extremely useful. I couldn’t get through a day without it. As required as a cup of coffee and a paper notebook by my side. Would it be nice to be able to resize an image in the app like it used to be able to do? Yeah, that would be nice. But it’s not a big hassel.

If you’re communicating with programmers, filing bug reports or even generating documentation that needs illustrations of user interfaces, this utility is invaluable. It has evolved into the perfect replacement for Skitch (the utility Evernote bought and ruined).

Why can’t anyone stick with the simple… screenshot…. annotate… custom file format/type… save to location on disk… copy filename to clipboard with optional prepended url… and get out of the way… This app is nice, but in an attempt to cater to the mess of social media today misses the basic key feature. Instead of supporting nearly anyone, regarless of their choice of services, it’s boxed into supporting on a few services. You can click some buttons and type some things to get it to save to the hard disk. But this won’t cut it for me as I snap screenshots and look for a paste way too many times a day. If it had this support, I’d give it 5 stars, but I just can’t as is.

I came from Skitch after realizing that I was wasting $5/mo on Evernote for services that other apps could do as well if not better. Unfortunately, one part of losing Evernote also meant losing Skitch (I regularly take screenshots, so I quickly surpass the free 60mb monthly upload limit), so I sought out a replacement. That said, my gripes with Annotate almost strictly relate to how I used Skitch and its featuers. They include: - automatically saving a screenshot when it’s taken - Annotate offers that but you must integrate with a third-party cloud service. It doesn’t appear to offer automatic saving to local storag - text doesn’t automatically begin appearing on image when you begin typing - the window doesn’t vanish when trying to drag the image somewhere else, a la Napkin or Skitch - no Callout/zoom feature (still using Napkin and/or Preview for this) There are definite pros to this though: - the GIF maker is very handy, though there’s a bug it appears where if you try to drag the GIF somewhere, it gets hung up on saving. You have to save it first, then you can drag it somewhere (if you desire, though at this point it’s largely not necessary) - not limited based on some space limitation a la Evernote’s monthly upload limits, where once you reach the limit you can no longer use the app - the pixelation and dimming features are nice. I’ve only used the dimming feature, but it’s been handy more than once Overall, if you’re looking for a Skitch replacement, this liikely suffices as long as you don’t heavily lean on the feature differences listed above.

This app works exactly how you want it to. There are shortcuts to easily take a snapshot/screenshot/screen capture of your desktop. Then the application quickly opens up with the ability to add arrows, boxes, text, emoji and more. The best part for me was being able to drag my edited photo where I wanted it. Oh, and it gives you the option to share a link of your photo to various destinations - and it linked to my dropbox account in a few short clicks. Very well thought out and executed!

Worth 2x the price

Only wish it was available as a Photos extension (on both Mac & iOS).

I’m an existing Glui user, I really like the app: gets the jobe done. There’s one thing that’s changed since it’s called Annotate though. The links to dropbox are not the normal dropbox links, but some shortcut that’s created by the app. This generates 2 issues for me: 1 - I use several apps where dropbox links that contain images get rendered automatically when I paste the link. This doesn’t work anymore due to the custom link. 2 - Are you tracking my screenshots? I’d definitely look for another app if this is the case. It’d be great if the app used the normal dropbox links. Thanks!

I’ve tried Jing and a ton of different screenshot browser plug-ins over the years. Some are good but each one has at least one fatal flaw. Annotate is the best I’ve tried. Right balance between functionality and simplicity. Good sharing options. My only wish is that you could set up multiple places to upload — for example, options to Share to Dropbox and Google Drive stack on top of each other.
